Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die Starring Sam Rockwell. Directed by Gore Verbinski

Before I watched CRIME 101 last week, I went to the movies to check out Gore Verbinski's sci-fi new sci-fi mind-bender, GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON'T DIE

The Sales Pitch:

A man claiming to be from the future takes the patrons of an iconic Los Angeles diner hostage in search of unlikely recruits in a quest to save the world. February 13 - Only in Theaters Directed by: Gore Verbinski Starring: Sam Rockwell, Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Peña, Zazie Beetz, Asim Chaudhry, and Juno Temple

This movie is wildly fun and imaginative.

Verbinski's pointed satire critiques humanity's slow surrender  to technology in general, personified in the buzzwords of our time: Artificial Intelligence. Social Media. Algorithm.

The story puts its finger on and explains modern feelings of disconnection and alienation, a tried and true tactic that made movies like Terminator, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Inception, and The Matrix work.  While not quite as well written or executed as any of those movies, GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON'T DIE is still incredibly fun.

GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON'T DIE gleefully plays with the our expectations as a n audience. Most of the movie it's unclear whether Sam Rockwell’s unnamed protagonist is just insane, a grifty conman, a bonafide time-travelling badass, or some mixture thereof.  As we get a chance to see him in action, understand the objectives of his mission, and get a grasp of how all these seemingly random characters' backstories overlap to build a team that can save the world.

I'll write another piece going into my theories about what all is going on in this movie later.

For now, I really recommend you to check it out!
