The 2 parter Homecoming is probably my favorite story from the dearly departed cartoon show Teen Titans Go. Launching the show's fifth and final season, Homecoming introduces Beast Boy's former team the Doom Patrol, and their evil archenemies the Brotherhood of Evil.
The story starts with a flashback to Beast Boy's time as a member of the Doom Patrol that gives us a glimpse at how this team differs from the Teen Titans. When the present day Beast Boy is called upon to return to the aid of his fallen former teammates he brings the Titans along for the ride. While the Doom Patrol are more powerful and experienced, the Titans, in many ways, are more mature. As the first episode ends and the stakes are raised, Beast Boy must choose which team he will side with.
The Doom Patrol's leader Mento has a militaristic attitude and seems to be hellbent on sacrificing his team to defeat the Brotherhood. Unlike the Titans, who seem like five friends who also happen to be superheroes, the Doom Patrol are more dedicated to defeating their enemy than they are to one another. That distinction reinforces the awesomeness of the Titans while still building on the appeal and mystique of the Doom Patrol.
A great episode.
